`Vital Connections´ is a series of four watercolours through which I have sought to reflect how the mind’s emotions engage with the physical body, affecting our health and behaviour.
In their time, Freud and Lacan spoke about the ‘Symptoms of Drive’ and their psychosomatic phenomenon. The human being is a unit; our organs cannot be separated from our internal sensations. We usually ignore emotions and life experiences, whether positive or negative, when it comes to addressing the impact they have on our organism and yet they are the driving force that move us forward in life. The conscious exploration of the unconscious is not a paradox or a play on words: it makes us think what we should change, but sometimes we cannot dispense with obstacles or fragility to become ourselves.
In the four watercolours, the dendrites, the blood vessels, the stains, the drops and the rivers of blood converge harmoniously with their own nature, transforming the process of each of the paintings into a substantial ritual where each neuronal structure, responsible for cellular communication, will warn us when something is not flowing in harmony with ourselves. Each sign is in its place (reds) and each drive is represented in yellows, oranges and pinks that explode inside us. The blood vessels, membranes and capillaries dilate and break rhythmically, inviting the spectator to reflect in order to find in sensitivity the cure to many of the things that unsettle us.
`THE BLUE HOUR´
The coral is sensitive to the luminosity of the moon. When the sun sets below the horizon, the sky is deep blue, a phenomenon known as the "blue hour", changes in the celestial light, and that only lasts a few hours, the perfect timing occurs for that the union of male and female gametes, a few days after the full moon, come together to reproduce.
This series of three watercolors represents that moment in which life emerges with all its splendor giving us the most valuable lessons: live a life full of color, instead of leading an existence in black and white, trust the power of contrast and find the balance between appearance and content.
`THE INTELLIGENCE OF COPPER´
For the last eighteen years, copper has formed part of my life. In one way or another, it is always present and, after all these years of proximity, I intend to give it more significance from an artistic perspective.
Following a lengthy research process, I have used it as an artistic object, as my favourite metal; as creative expression.
As a neo-expressionist artist, I am expanding my experience to present and convey my abstract vision of this metal through thematic, historical and conceptual arguments, ratifying its essence and importance in our lives. A project cum exhibition where painting and photography come together with a single common denominator: the electric conductivity of copper; the conductivity that keeps us all attached to each other by a single connecting thread.
I have used colour and a spatula, as well as metallic elements such as copper, copper wire and treated iron, to play with space and shapes and materials such as canvases and panels in order to create these works that I showed at Art Fair Málaga in 2017.
